KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Melamchi's water is being diverted to the water treatment plant located in Sundarijal, Kathmandu starting today.
An agreement to send Melamchi's water to Kathmandu was reached during a discussion on Monday between the Melamchi Struggle Committee and Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav.
Minister Yadav visited Melamchi in Helambu Rural Municipality and held talks with the Struggle Committee and concerned stakeholders. A team, including Minister Yadav, who had committed to providing Melamchi's water to the people of Kathmandu before Dashain, went to Melamchi for discussions on Monday.

Executive Director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, Ratna Lamichhane, said that Melamchi's water will be sent to Kathmandu after an agreement was reached in talks between Minister Yadav's team and the Melamchi Struggle Committee. The agreement came after the Struggle Committee's legitimate demands were addressed.
Director Lamichhane said, "An agreement has been reached with the Struggle Committee to bring Melamchi's water to Kathmandu. Water from Melamchi will be diverted to Sundarijal starting Tuesday."
According to him, as per the agreement, the Ministry of Water Supply will take the initiative to begin the multi-year contract process within the next three months. This will include submitting a proposal for resource approval through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to the Ministry of Finance for the reconstruction of the project and the construction of a road that will operate year-round for local transportation.
According to Executive Director Lamichhane, an agreement was reached with the Flood Victims Struggle Committee on Monday to temporarily suspend all protest programs and to assist the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee in diverting water to the Kathmandu Valley.
