POKHARA, March 3:Provincial assembly members of Gandaki Province held a meeting in Pokhara, the provincial capital, on Friday with the aim of persuading Nepal Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who is a prospective presidential candidate, to safeguard the interests of the ruling eight-party coalition.
The gathering of provincial assembly members discussed the rationale behind the formation of the coalition and why Paudel is the ideal candidate for the post of president. They also emphasized the importance of defeating the opposition candidate.

Addressing the gathering, Surendra Bahadur Pandey, leader of the NC Gandaki Province Parliamentary Party, said that a new alliance has been formed to bring the fragmented politics back on track. During the meeting, presidential candidate Ram Chandra Paudel, who has always fought for democracy, said that he must win as he would never harm democracy and the constitution.
CPN Maoist Center General Secretary Dev Gurung said that the eight-party alliance was formed with the aim of protecting democracy and the constitution and to ensure political stability. He said that Ram Chandra Paudel is a guardian figure and has made an incomparable contribution to democracy and the constitution-making process, so he should be elected the new president.
"We are close to two-thirds majority now, so Paudel's victory is assured," he said.
NC Vice Chairman Dhanraj Gurung said that the alliance is not only for presidential election or voting but for political stability, economic development as well as permanence. “Therefore, standing in favor of development and stability, vote for Ramchandraji,” he said.
