KATHMANDU, April 20: While the Nepal government is administering the second dose of Covishield vaccine to those who had received its first dose earlier from today, news of re-infection of COVID-19 is being reported regularly.

Health workers who have already been inoculated with both the first and second doses of the vaccine have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr Kapilmani KC, an orthopedic specialist at Civil Hospital, tested positive for COVID-19 after three weeks of receiving a second dose of the Covishield vaccine. KC underwent a PCR test after experiencing high fever, headache and other COVID-19 related symptoms. “The result was positive,” KC said. “It is shocking that I tested positive for COVID-19 during the peak protection period of the vaccine,” he added.

Similarly, in yet another case, a doctor who had also received both doses of Covishield has also tested positive for COVID-19 in Rupandehi, according to Dr KC.

Similar cases of re-infections were also reported in a hospital in New Delhi. A nurse associated with Satyavadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital also tested positive for COVID-19 after one month of being inoculated with the Covishield vaccine. Likewise, a doctor working at Gandhi Medical College in Madhya Pradesh of India also tested positive for COVID-19 after 10 days of receiving the second dose of the vaccine.

Earlier, the Nepal government had inoculated frontline workers and other officials with 1 million doses of covishield vaccine received in a grant from the Indian government.
