GORKHA, Dec 25: Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand has claimed that the US-funded Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement should be endorsed through parliament at the earliest possible date as it is a request put forth by Nepal itself to accelerate the pace of the country’s development.

“MCC is not an agreement of military alliance. The project was proposed by the Government of Nepal, especially for power transmission line and road construction, poverty alleviation and employment growth in the country,” Minister Khand said.

Addressing the 16th annual convention of Gorkha Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday, Minister Khand clarified that MCC is a donation and not a debt.

Minister Khand also said that the US wants the donation to be used in a proper way. He said that discussions would be held between the coalition partners when the MCC agreement is tabled in parliament for its endorsement.
