Three killed, five injured in two separate explosions in capital

Three persons killed while seven persons sustained injuries in two separate explosions in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon, police said. Spokesperson of the Nepal Police Biswaraj Pokharel confirmed that one person died after the explosion at a private house at Ghattekulo. One person was injured in the incident. 

Senior NCP leader Khanal calls for political consensus to resolve conflict-era cases

Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Jhala Nath Khanal has drawn the attention of the government to reach political consensus in a bid to settle the conflict-era cases as early as possible. Speaking at a program organized by Conflict Victim Common Platform in the capital, Khanal urged the government committees to recommend the office bearers for two transitional justice mechanisms —Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons—without government's influence. 

Vice President Pun leaves for Vienna to attend R20 Austrian World Summit

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun on Sunday morning left home for Austria to attend the R20 Austrian World Summit to be held in Vienna on May 28. The vice president is visiting the country at the invitation of the Federal President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen. The R20 Austrian World Summit is dedicated to climate action. The Nepali delegation includes vice president’s spouse Hastamali Pun, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Forest and Environment.

India likely to invite leaders from neighboring countries during Modi’s inauguration: reports

The Indian government is considering to invite leaders from neighboring countries including Nepal during the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian media reported on Sunday. To underscore the significance of India’s Neighborhood First Policy, the Indian PM is likely to make a neighboring country his first port of call after taking over as PM for the second time on May 30, the TOI report said. Media reports said that Modi is unlikely to invite his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan this time due to the hostile relationship between India and Pakistan.  

Government team in Dolpa to measure depth of Shey-Phoksundo Lake

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has sent an expert team to (re)measure the depth of Phoksundo Lake based in Dolpa. The source of alpine freshwater situating in the country's largest district is known as the deepest lake in the country. The Department decided to take its measurement in the wake of disputes regarding its depth.

Unidentified group loot Rs 400,000 in Dharan

An unidentified group shot an employee of Dharan-based microfinance and robbed of around Rs 400,000 on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place when the unidentified group shot Shambhu Gachchadar, the marketing representative of Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Sanstha, and looted the cash when he was returning to his office.
