Two Women candidates register nomination for President

Two women candidates Bidya Devi Bhandari from UML and Kumari Laxmi Rai from Nepali Congress have filed their nomination for the President's candidate. Bhandari is a former leader and the first woman President of Nepal and Rai is the former lawmaker and Central Committee member of Nepali Congress. with the clear majority in the parliament of Left Alliance, Bhandari will likely to reelected for the President. 

FNJ's election in all provinces on May 5

The third plenary meeting of Central Working Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists concluded with a declaration to hold provincial election of the FNJ in all provinces on May 5. Issuing an 18-point Janakpurdham Declaration, the meeting decided to take the membership cleansing campaign ahead effectively and expressed commitment to the professional security of journalists, editorial freedom and enforcement of journalist code of conduct. 

Govt revises economic growth target down to 6 pc

The government has revised the economic growth target down to 6 percent from the initial target of 7.2 percent. Similarly, the government has also revised budget expenditure down to 84.67 percent out of the total budget announced in the budget speech which means the government plans to spend only Rs 1082.99 billion.

Increasing number of HIV infected visiting hospitals for treatment

Kanchanpur, a district in far-western Nepal, has the records of a more number of HIV-infected people visiting health facilities for services these days. Unlike the past, people with HIV have started visiting medical facilities in search of treatment which can be viewed very positively. According to records available at the District Public Health Office, Kanchanpur so far 142 people have lost their lives to HIV infection in the district.

Anti-Muslim riots flare in Sri Lanka; social media blocked

Anti-Muslim rioting flared anew Wednesday in the hills of central Sri Lanka despite a state of emergency, residents said, as the government ordered popular social media networks blocked to stop the violence from spreading. The police also ordered a curfew across much of the region for a third straight day, trying to calm the situation.
