Six killed, three injured in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

At least six persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when a passenger jeep met with an accident in Okhaldhunga on Sunday. The incident occurred when the ill-fated jeep (Ba 16 Cha 2207) skidded off the road and fell down into the gorge at Bhadarekhola. Further details have not been received as rescue operation is underway, police said.

Defence Minister Pokhrel meets UN USG for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix in New York

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ishwar Pokhrel held a meeting with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix on Saturday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the issues related to the UN peacekeeping, including its critical role in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in the areas of its deployment, according to Nepal's Permanent Mission to United Nations in New York. Under-Secretary-General Lacroix thanked Nepal for contributing its peacekeepers, without caveats, for more than six decades.

Investment summit encouraging, fruitful: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that government has centered its attention on building new Nepal with social justice. End of poverty and backwardness, and development of infrastructures are given top priority under the economic prosperity campaign, he added. "The investment summit concluded on Saturday remained quite encouraging and fruitful for infrastructural development. We successfully held the event. Entire nation stood together. We gave a message of focused direction and one voice," PM Oli said.

64 drug trafficking cases in eight months alone

District Police Office here has registered 64 cases related to drug trafficking and drug abuse combined in the recent eight months. The District Police arrested 109 persons- 14 women and 95 men- in this connection and initiated investigation for the action. In these eight months, the police have confiscated 93.5 gram brown sugar, six kg charas, 181 gram marijuana, and 157 gram nitrogen. Similarly, cultivation of an illegal opium plants was destroyed last month. 

China plant explosion kills seven; second blast in Jiangsu province this month

A plant explosion in China’s Jiangsu province has killed seven people, state media reported on Sunday, 10 days after a blast at a pesticide plant killed 78 people in the province and triggered a nationwide safety inspection campaign. The incident follows a deadly blast on March 21 at a chemical park in the city of Yancheng, also in Jiangsu province, that killed 78 people and focused attention on safety at small chemical firms.

Eighth National Games: 5,211 athletes competing for 1,307 medals

A total of 5,211 athletes are competing for 1,307 medals in the eighth National Games taking place at different places of state 5 from coming April 18.  There are 327 gold, 372 silver and 563 bronze medals for the winners in the championship. An athlete competing in the individual category would get Rs 15,000 while Rs 7,000 to each athlete competing in the in group category. A total of 10,000 people including athletes, officials, referees and juries are attending the Games.
