PM Oli considering to relieve some ministers?

Sources close to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that there was a possibility of relieving some ministers to ensure effective delivery of services to the people. The statement comes at a time when the Oli led government is facing criticism for lacklustre performance. However, this isn’t the first time that the reshuffle has resurfaced. The reshuffle had surfaced twice – on February 2019 and September 2019. On February 2019, the Prime Minister had thought to change the portfolio of some ministers ahead of the Nepal Investment Summit. On September 2018, Oli had dismissed speculations of a change despite criticism from all quarters after the government failed to deliver its promises.

Experts highlight various geo-strategic, economic challenges in Indo-Pacific region

Experts from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka on Tuesday highlighted contemporary security and economic challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at a two-day "COSATT Regional Conference on Security and Economic Challenges in the Indo-Pacific" in the capital, the speakers were of the view that the South Asian countries should cautiously handle their ties with the United States and China in the changed context.

 

Franco-Italian aerospace manufacturer to supply Nepal with telecommunication satellite

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority and Thales Alenia Space have signed an agreement to build a national satellite telecommunication system for Nepal. The C/Ku Band satellite is set to be launched by 2022 and positioned at 123.3° E orbital slot reserved for Nepal by International Telecommunication Union. The satellite will aim to make high-speed internet available throughout Nepal, spearheading services such as telemedicine, e-learning, e-government, disaster management, information technologies, agriculture, tourism, hydropower and other value-added services, along with the provisions of Direct-to-Home television and mobile phone backhauling. It will also help to reduce the digital divide, especially in the underserved rural areas.

Airlines across the world ground Boeing 737 Max despite U.S.'s assurance on safety

Eighteen airlines around the world have suspended flights involving the 737 Max 8, accounting for more than one-third of the carriers among Boeing's 47 customers. China, one of the largest users of the Boeing 737 Max 8, on Monday ordered all domestic airlines to suspend commercial flights of the model, the first national civil aviation body to make such order. The United States, however, has said that it was safe to fly 737 MAX 8 planes. The move comes after 157 people were killed in an air crash in Ethiopia on Monday.  

SAFF Women C’ship: Nepal routs Bhutan 3-0

Nepal has defeated Bhutan 3-0 in its opener of the Fifth SAFF Women Championship being held at Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar, Morang district on Tuesday. Host Nepal made a flying start with two goals in the first half of the tournament. Manjali Kumari Yonjan scored the first goal for Nepal at the 13th minute.
