Maoist from Chand’s party held on extortion charge

ROLPA, Jan 8: Police in Rolpa have arrested a worker of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Maoist party on Monday on extortion charges.


The so-called ‘area secretary’ of the outfit, 42-year-old Bhupendra Khadka aka ‘Gore’, was arrested from Lungri -2 in the district Monday. According to police, a complaint was filed against Khadka accusing him of extorting from Devendra Rijal, a teacher at Shree Hikmateshwar Basic School and a resident of Lungri-2.

Deepak Khadka, the chief of District Police Office, Rolpa, said, “We had to arrest him after receiving complaint that he extorted Rs 50,000 from a teacher by using threats.” Police produced Khadka before the District Court, Rolpa and he has been remanded to five days in judicial custody. He has been kept at the Area Police Office, Sulichaur. 


On Sunday, Bhup Bahadur KC, a local schoolteacher was detained on the charge of issuing threat against several individuals. He was freed Monday.
