KATHMANDU, July 3: A meeting of the Central Committee of the CPN (Maoist Center) has begun in the capital. The Maoists, who held their eighth general convention last December, have not been able to elect any office-bearers other than the chairman. Secretary of the Central Office, Shree Ram Dhakal stated that the meeting of the Central Committee has started at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi.

The agenda of the meeting includes completion of the Central Committee, selection of office bearers, selection of Politburo and Standing Committee and division of labor. A similar meeting will also discuss the review of the local level election held on May 13 and the future course of action.

Though the General Convention held last December elected Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the party’s chairman, other office-bearers could not be elected. The General Convention had made arrangements for the office-bearers to be the chairperson, senior vice-chairperson, general secretary, deputy general secretary, secretary and treasurer posts and also to have a 299-member central committee.

It is mentioned in the agenda that the meeting, which has been postponed several times after the General Convention, will discuss the recent political situation of the country and the preparations for the upcoming federal and provincial assembly elections. Dahal will brief the meeting on the latest political situation.
