KATHMANDU, July 6: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to not appoint a new finance minister until the parliamentary probe against Janardan Sharma is over.

Sharma tendered resignation from the post on Wednesday amidst allegation that he had employed ‘unauthorized’ persons to manipulate tax rates in the annual budget for the fiscal year 2022/23. The House of Representatives (HoR) has formed an 11-member probe committee to investigate the case.

Talking to media persons after the parliament meeting on Wednesday, Maoist Center leader Barsha Man Pun said the party would not send a new name until the investigation is over. “Party had suggested that he tender resignation. But this was not mandatory,” he said.

“But he has demonstrated a high level of morality by stepping down from the post. Our party won’t make a new finance minister until the investigation against Sharma is over.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will himself oversee Finance Ministry until new appointment is made, according to sources close to Prime Minister Deuba.
