KATHMANDU, August 30: The CPN (Maoist Center) has dissolved almost all party committees including the large central committee and headquarters in view of the difficulties faced by the party leadership in their effective mobilization. The party's spokesperson Pampha Bhusal said that the party will now be run by a 90-member central secretariat.

"The party activities will be handled by the central secretariat for interim period," said Bhusal.

The party had around 4,000 central committee members, way too compared to that of Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML. There are 34 leaders in the headquarters, which functions as the party's steering committee.

A meeting held after the second phase of the civic polls had blamed the party's jumbo committees for the party's poor performance in the local elections. Besides practical difficulties in managing the party, the bloated committees had left hundreds of leaders who failed to find a place in the central body unhappy.
