Maniali appointed NSC member

KATHMANDU, Dec 11: National Sports Council (NSC) appointed Binod Kumar Mainali as member of the sports governing body for a four-year term following a ministerial-level decision over the recommendation of the Mid-western Regional Sports Development Committee. This is the second term for Mainali as a member of the NSC. Earlier, he was member of the NSC during former NSC Member Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha's second term.


Lawn Tennis picks eves for SAG

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association on Friday selected four women players for the 12th South Asian Games to be held in India next year through selection tournament being held at Satdobato, Lalitpur. Ira Rawat, Ganga Sharma, Bibhuti Karki and Bijisha Shrestha got selected for the SAG as they finished top four during the selection event. Ira won all seven matches, while Ganga was victorious in six, Bibhuti won five and Bijisha won four matches. Meanwhile, Samrakshan Bhushan Bajracharya and Shree Ram Magar are jointly leading the men's standings. Samrakshan and Shree Ram have won four matches each in the event as 11 players are vying for the top four positions through league matches. Likewise, Kamal Bhandari is in the third position with Abhishek Bastola in the fourth position. The final list of top four players will be decided by Monday.

Three share lead in TT selection

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Deep Saun of Nepal Police Club, Purushottam Bajracharya and Shiva Sundar Gothe of APF Club share lead in the standings of the Table Tennis Selection Tournament being held at Lainchaur Table Tennis Training Centre, Kathmandu for the 12th South Asian Games. Deep, Purushottam and Shiva each have won seven matches and with a defeat at the end of Friday. Likewise, Amar Lal Malla of APF, Krishna Thapa of Tribhuvan Army Club and Anup Joshi of Morang are following them in the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.  In the women's section, Nibita Shrestha and Alina Maharjan of Police won eight matches each, Army's Rabina Maharjan won seven matches and Swechha Nembang is victorious in four matches and Selisha Khadki of APF won five out of eight matches. Top five players in men's and women's sections will be finalized on Saturday.

Gymnast to train in Thailand

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): A three-member gymnastics team, including two coaches, is set to leave for Thailand on Saturday to take part in a 'common training camp' to be conducted from December 13 to 17. Niru Darshandhari and Sajani Manandhar are coaches while Lumila Manandhar is the player to take part in the camp.

APF, New Diamond march on

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Defending champion APF Club and last year's runner-up New Diamond Academy have extended their winning run to nine and seven matches respectively in the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Double League Women Volleyball being held at the New Bus Park in Kathmandu.
APF beat another departmental team Nepal Police Club 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 on Friday. With the result, leader APF has 27 points from nine matches.
Similarly, New Diamond Academy beat Tribhuvan Army Club by 25-7, 25-19, 25-16 to record its seventh consecutive win.
In other matches of the day, Chandeshwari Youth Club, Ramechhap defeated Shree Janaki HS, Chitwan 14-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-22, Angel's Heart thrashed Bindhyabashini by 25-19, 25-7, 25-14 and Western Region recorded 25-10, 25-10, 25-7 win over Dhading Artists Association.

Nepal to play friendly against Bangladesh

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepali national football team, preparing for the SAFF Championship, is set to play a friendly match against Bangladesh on December 17 in Dhaka. As per All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the Bangladesh Football Federation on Friday confirmed about the friendly match. Nepal will leave for the friendly on December 15 and after the match Nepal will leave for India on December 21 as India is hosting the SAFF Championship from December 23 to January 3. Nepal has been pitted in Group A along with host India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan is not taking part in the event whereas Bhutan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Afghanistan are in Group B.

DDC, BCC triumph

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The A teams of DCC and BCC were victorious on Friday in the Hari Bahadur Khadka Memorial Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament being held at the Bangechour Cricket Stadium in Baglung. Karan KC's 94 runs off 53 balls helped DCC beat Panga Cricket Club by 166 runs. Batting first, DCC scored 186 runs losing eight wickets in allotted 20 overs. Karan smashed 10 sixes and five boundaries. Anish GC added 22 runs off 15 balls. In reply, Panga was bowled out for 20 runs in 10.4 overs with Arjun Rijal scoring highest eight runs. Santosh Shrestha claimed four wickets and Prabin Rijal took three wickets to restrict Panga on the low score. In another match, BCC beat Pokhara Piece Club by 32 runs. Batting first, BCC scored 135 runs losing nine wickets as Bidhan Shrestha scored 35 runs off 27 balls that included three sixes and a four. Chasing 136 runs target, Pokhara managed only 103 runs in 18.1 overs despite Arun Adhikari contributing 35 runs off 23 balls hitting two sixes and three boundaries.
