Manang reports first COVID-19 case, 42 new cases in Gandaki

POKHARA, June 18: Mountain district Manang reported the first case of novel coronavirus disease on Thursday.

A 57-year-old government employee in Chame Rural Municipality tested positive for the virus, according to Dr Binod Bindu Sharma, Director at Provincial Health Directorate. The man is from Banganga-14, Kapilvastu who had arrived in Manang fourteen days ago from his home district.

“He had been staying at a quarantine facility after his return from Kapilvastu,” said Badri Acharya, chief at District Health Office in Manang. According to Acharya, he has not developed any symptoms related to COVID-19.

Similarly, 41 other people were diagnosed with this fatal disease in Gandaki on Thursday morning. All of them were reported to be India-returnees.

According to the directorate, Nawalpur alone reported 18 new COVID-19 cases---17 from Madhyabindu Municipality and one from Gaindakot Municipality.

Similarly, twelve other cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in Tanahu district, including seven at Rishing Rural Municipality, four in Bhanu Municipality and one more in Shukla Gandaki Municipality.

Gorkha is another district to have reported eleven new cases on Thursday--- seven in Palungtar Municipality and four in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality.

All the newly infected ones were staying at the quarantine facilities set up in the respective local units. “They are now being taken to the isolation wards in respective district hospitals,” the directorate said.

With 42 new cases today, Gandaki Province has so far reported a total of 289 COVID-19 infections.
