CHITWAN, Sept 17: The Manakamana Cable Car will resume regular operations from today. Operated by Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, Nepal's first cable car will now operate using digital technology.


The cable car service had been suspended since July 15 to upgrade and replace the main cable wire. Ujwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, stated that the cable car, which had been operating using 'analog' technology for 26 years, has now been successfully transformed into 'digital' technology.

He stated that the transformation to digital technology was completed under the supervision of engineers and technicians from Austria's Doppelmayr company.


The cable car service to the famous religious site, Manakamana Temple, located in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality of Gorkha, was launched on November 24, 1998, for the convenience of pilgrims. The cable car's bottom station entrance is located at Cheres, Ward-4 of Ichhakamana Rural Municipality in Chitwan.
