Manakamana cable car service to resume from Sunday

GORKHA

The Manakamana cable car is all set to resume its operations from Sunday. It has been closed for five months due to the fear of the COVID-19 infection. According to Ujwal Sherchan, deputy manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd, the service has remained closed since April 29, 2021.

The company has stated that it has incurred a loss of more than Rs 100 million since its closure. "Even during the first wave of COVID-19, the cable car service had to be shut down for nine months," said Sherchan.

The cable car service is an easy way for the locals of Manakamana area to travel around. Locals are pressuring the company to operate the cable car saying that the unpaved roads are damaged due to the rain and it’s a hassle for them to use the road.

During the month of April to July, devotees going to the Manakamana Temple use the cable car service and it’s the peak season for business. The company has employed a total of 150 people.
The cable car service connecting Kurintar of the Prithvi Highway and Manakamana of Gorkha has remained in operation since 1998.
