Man who sold two women to Mumbai brothel arrested

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Lwang Lama aka Bhote Lama, who had sold two workers of a carpet factory in a brothel in Mumbai, has been arrested after 23 years of the incident. 

A team of police from Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Lama from Makwanpur district. Makwanpur Court has already ordered police to send Lama to a serve a jail term in Bhimphedi Jail.

According to police, a group of three people including Lama had sold two girls for Rs 50,000 each to a brothel in Mumbai tempting them of marriage in 1993.

Lama was on the run, while his two other accomplices—Gopal Syangtan and Titung Tamang—were arrested by police.

SP Mira Chaudhary said, “It has been revealed through the investigation that they had promised of marrying the girls.”

According to her, both the girls had lodged a complaint at the police against all the accused after they escaped from the brothel in 2001. Lama was on the run after receiving a bail from Kathmandu District Court.

 Patan Appellate Court had sentenced Lama of Padampokhari VDC-1, Makwanpur to a five years jail term on October 3, 2001 in charge of women trafficking.

According to Bureau, Syangtan had taken another girl to Mumbai along with a girl he had done a fake marriage.
