KAPILVASTU, Sept 24: A dead body has been found in Gobarhawa Bishwa River in Vijayanagar Rural Municipality, Kapilvastu district. The body has been identified as that of Ram Samuj Tharu, a local of the area.
Tharu, 60, was found dead in the river earlier this morning by some locals. He had gone to the neighboring village at around 6PM on Wednesday to perform a superstitious ritual. According to his family members, Tharu had consumed alcohol in excessive amounts. He had then left the house claiming that he was going to a cow shed about 1km away from the house. That was the last time they saw him alive.
His family members started to search for him all over the village when Tharu didn't come back home until late evening. But Tharu was nowhere to be found. On Thursday morning some locals found his dead body floating in the river that lies 500 meters south of the cowshed.
Police officials of the Area Police Office, Ganeshpur, suspect that he must have died after falling in the river due to unconsciousness. "As Tharu was drunk, we suspect that he died after falling into the river," said a police officer.
According to the police, the river was hugely swollen in the night.
