SINDHULI, Aug 6: A man from Mustang has been duped by fraudsters on the pretext of exchanging US dollar. The victim, Krishna Mahan Nepali, 32, of Lete VDC-6 in Mustang had trusted an unidentified group to exchange USD 30,000.

According to Nepali, he had found USD 30,000 after the devastating earthquake of April 25.

“The group called me to Sindhuli to get the money exchanged,” he said.

However, the group warned Nepali of risks involved in exchanging the found dollars and told him to meet them in a quieter area.

Nepali believed them and when he reached the appointed place, two people were waiting for him with a package.

However, before exchanging the package, the group also convinced Nepali to open it only after reaching his place.

After Nepali reached his hotel and opened the bundle, he was shocked. There was no money, but only papers in the shape of money. He filed a police complaint upon realizing that he had been cheated.

According to the District Police Office, Sindhuli, Nepali was familiar with Nrijal Pariyar, one of the members of the group. He had then sought help from him to exchange the money.

The police have yet to make any arrests in the case.
