Man arrested while smuggling liquor to India

MORANG, July 25: On Sunday night, the police seized a cache of liquor, which was being smuggled to India on a tractor, from Jahada in Morang.

According to Morang Police, the liquor being transported in a tractor to Jogbani, India through Jahada Rural Municipality-1 was seized around 10 PM on Sunday. Goods such as alcohol, betel nut, green peas are smuggled from Nepal to India, and goods such as clothes, food grains, motor parts etc. are smuggled from India to Nepal.

DSP Deepak Shrestha, spokesperson for Morang Police, said that 150 cartons of illegal liquor of 'Dilwale' brand loaded in the tractor (Ko 1 ta 5913) were seized. The value of the recovered liquor that was being taken to India is Rs 135,000. After seeing the police, the driver of the tractor ran away. A search for the driver is on. DSP Shrestha said that the seized liquor will be handed over to the Biratnagar Customs Office.

The sale and consumption of alcohol is completely banned in Bihar, India. Due to the prohibition of alcohol in Bihar, the people of Bihar come to Bhedetar, a tourist area including Biratnagar, to consume alcohol.

Nepal Police has seized various stolen and smuggled goods in small and large quantities not only in the border area but also in Biratnagar. Although the smuggled goods such as clothes, food, motor vehicles and other goods were seized in various houses and godowns of Biratnagar, the owners of the goods were never arrested.
