SURUNGA (Jhapa), Dec 27: A person has been arrested on charges of fraud by using a fake facebook profile under the name of Matin Anthony Mart. 

Sushma Pradhan Rai of Birtamode Municipality – 7 was befriended by Mart on facebook and later promised to send an apple's iPhone, laptop and iPod from the UK. 

Mart was able to convince the unsuspecting girl and draw out Rs 219,000. Rai filed a complaint with the Area Police Office, Birtamode when she came to know that she had been tricked. After an investigation, the police zoomed in on Ved Prasad Pokharel, 31, of Durgapur in Kankai Municipality – 1. 

Pokharel was handed over to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Monday, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Keshav Kumar Thebe, of Area Police Office, Birtamode. 

Mart had asked Rai to deposit USD 2,000 at the Everest Bank which was later withdrawn by Pokharel, investigation showed. According to police, Pokharel had created the fake facebook profile under Mart's name to engage in the fraudulent activity. RSS
