KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Nepal national cricket team Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla has opted to stay out of the upcoming T20I series to be held in Oman citing personal reasons.

Malla, Nepal’s first ever ODI half-centurion, last featured in Nepal team in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifiers in which Nepal failed to secure a spot in the global qualifiers for the ICC T20 World Cup after losing the decisive match against Singapore held at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore.

He was announced in the 35-men preliminary squad for the upcoming South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in December. His announcement has come at a time when the squad is currently in the closed camp for that at the TU International Cricket Ground at Kirtipur.

Earlier, Nepal had confirmed its participation in a five-team T20I series that includes Ireland, the Netherlands and Hong Kong, along with the host team Oman to be held in October.

The T20 international series is set to start on October 5 with Nepal facing Hong Kong in its first match on October 6. All the matches will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground. The team with the most wins at the end of the league round will be declared the champion. In case of a tie in the points table, head to head (between the two teams) and net run rate will be the deciding factor to choose a winner.
