KATHMANDU, Dec 21: A Malaysian court has acquitted a Nepali migrant worker on drug trafficking charges. Bhim Bahadur Nepali of Siraha district, who worked as a security guard in Malaysia, was charged with trafficking drugs a year ago. The Malaysian laws deem drug smuggling illegal and slap a capital punishment.

Kuala Lumpur-based Nepali embassy confirmed the court's verdict on Nepali's case. The embassy pleaded the case on behalf of Nepal government in coordination with Malaysian law practitioners. The pleading charges were borne by the Nepal government.

The acquitted Nepali returned home on Wednesday with the financial help of the government.
