KATHMANDU, March 12: Majority of justices in the Supreme Court on Monday have suggested to Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli to stop working at the apex court and not to assign any cases to justices.

Justices at a full-court meeting on Monday suggested to the chief justice to stop working for now due to questions raised against his eligibility and integrity of justice delivery by him.

“Majority of justices at the meeting have suggested to the chief justice to stop fixing daily cause list,” a highly-placed source at the apex court told Myrepublica. According to the source, the justices have clearly told him that they wouldn’t hear the cases based on the cause list fixed by Parajuli.

Though Parajuli urged the justices not to believe in media reports arguing that “only a single media was writing against me”, the justices weren’t convinced by his arguments.

Civil society members including Dr Govinda KC have demanded resignation of chief justice to save the judiciary’s image in general public. Parajuli has been accused of altering his date of birth in his academic certificates so as to make himself eligible for the post of chief justice.

Parajuli has been widely criticized for hearing on cases in which he is a party.
