CHITWAN, Dec 18: Maiti Nepal Chitwan has rescued 10 people from human trafficking. They were rescued from different hotels in a period of 11 months. According to Ishwar Giri, coordinator of Maiti Nepal Chitwan branch, they were rescued from a hotel in Chitwan.
One arrested for illegally transporting timber
Chitwan is said to be the center of human trafficking. Giri said that 368 people were sent back home from the border during this period. They were found while monitoring 716 vehicles at the border crossing and bus park. Human trafficking is a major issue not only in Chitwan but in entire Nepal.
At present, Maiti Nepal Chitwan has rescued and protected 475 people who were victims of violence. Maiti Nepal has also been conducting public awareness programs for reduction of violence and human trafficking. It also has conducted 1,566 programs related to safe foreign employment. They also went to 140 houses in the violence-affected areas and conducted public awareness programs.
