Main opposition NC registers proposal of urgent public importance in HoR

KATHMANDU, July 24: The main opposition Nepali Congress has presented a proposal of urgent public importance in the House of Representatives, seeking the House ruling to the government in regard with search, rescue efforts in the aftermath of losses of lives and property by monsoon floods, landslides and incidences of inundation.

On the very onset of the meeting, NC lawmaker Dr Minendra Prasad Rijal narrated the proposal was presented to give a message that political parties would come together when the nation was in a crisis.

"It means to inspire the government to work in collaboration with the parliament in times of crisis, making corrections in weaknesses of the past and it is brought in a bid to stand together with the opposition in efforts meant for good causes of the people and to see the government among the people in difficulty.

It proves that the opposition is for constructive support when necessary." "Over 100 lives lost their lives to the incidences of flood, landslide and inundation in the aftermath of torrential rains, some people have gone missing, some are injured, some highways have been disrupted and electricity has been cut off, causing the loss of physical property worth billion of rupees and on this backdrop, the government is sought to inform the House of Representatives about the status and progress of the search, rescue and relief efforts and existing situation of the affected areas," the proposal reads.

The proposal highlights the need of policy-level direction to the government to conduct the rescue, relief and rehabilitation works launched by the governments of three levels in an efficient and impartial way. Backing the proposal, Rastriya Janata Party- Nepal presidium chair Raj Kishore Yadav said the document was brought to find a better way to console the people surviving the incidences of disasters occurred during this monsoon through combined efforts.

Nepali Congress leader Pushpa Bhusal expressed her solidarity to the proposal and said the party wished to see the collective efforts among the political parties to ensure basic rights of people such as the right to live and right to healthcare services and taking relief and rescue works among the survivors.
