Mai Valley football from March 30

ILAM, Jan 26 : Mai Valley Club is set to organize the third edition of Mai Valley Gold Cup Football Tournament from March 30 to April 8 in Ilam making increment in the cash prize.

The winner of the tournament that will feature 10 clubs from Nepal, India and Bhutan, will bag purse of Rs 400,000 while the runner-up will be rewarded with Rs 250,000. The top two teams of the last edition of the tournament were given Rs 300,000 and Rs 150,000 respectively.

Mai Valley Club’s President Dhiren Chemjong informed that the tournament will see the participation of the three departmental teams - Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Force (APF)-alongside other domestic clubs Sahara Club, Rupandehi-XI and defending champion Jhapa-XI.

He also informed that A Division outfit Manang Marsyangdi Club is also likely to take part in the tournament. However, the organizer hasn’t disclosed the names of the foreign clubs.  According to Chemjong, Tara Sapkota and Roju Sapkota of Panchakanya, Ilam who had sponsored the cash prize for the champion in the last edition will sponsor this time as well.

He informed that organizer is searching the sponsor for the second cash prize. The tournament will be played in Tundikhel of Ilam where renovation is being held alongside planting of the grass on the ground. “Last year we had received complain over the ground from participating teams so this time we are planting the grass to make it better,” said Chemjong, “We are also constructing temporary parapet,”  The total budget of the tournament is Rs 5.2 million organizer further informed.
