MAHOTTARI, Oct 28: Many health institutions in Gaushala municipality are in short of government-provided free medicines, which have badly affected the patients.

"Patients visiting the facility are forced to return empty handed as it lacks medicines," said Arjun Bahadur Bohara, in-charge of the Nigaul health post. The health institution receives at least 20 patients on a daily basis. Besides, it lacks toilet and drinking water facility.

Likewise, Gaushala primary health post is struggling for lack of medicines and medical equipments. Although a total of 58 types of medicines are provided freely by the government, the health facility lacks the medicines even for minor ailments, said Manoj Sah, a health practitioner at the health post. There are no X-ray machine and ambulance, he added. Similar situation is faced by the Ramnagar health post.

Co-coordinator for the District Public Health Office Ashok Kumar Mahato said six health facilities, including a primary health post, are facing the medicine crunch. No concrete steps have been taken so far in this regard despite the Province Assembly members, representatives and the Municipality being informed.

He said although the budget was released to purchase Rs 1.5 million worth of medicines, the bidding process could not advance due to technical reasons.  RSS
