KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Maghe Sankranti has been celebrated across the country and in Tundikhel today. It is celebrated especially by the Tharu and Magar communities.
The Tharu community celebrates Maghe Sankranti on the 1st of Magh as the New Year by bathing, donating, eating and having fun.
Kumal community to mark Maghe Sankranti festival in Golaghat
The day when the sun enters Uttarayana or the northern hemisphere is considered as the new year of the Tharu community. This festival is also given different names depending on the place. This festival is celebrated in the Terai region for five days from the first of Magh (mid-January to mid-February).
In recent days, revelers have started celebrating Maghe Sankranti in Tudikhel of Kathmandu by organising various programs.
