KATHMANDU, March 8: Agitating Madhes-based parties handed over a five-point memorandum to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal giving 7 days ultimatum to address their demands.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal On Wednesday morning held a meeting with the Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Madhesi leaders united under Federal Alliance and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

According to National Madhes Socialist Party General Secretary Keshav Jha, the UDMF leaders read out the memorandum and further discussed about it in the meeting held at PM's official residence, Baluwatar.

The Madhes-based parties said that they have decided to withdraw support to the government unless the announcement of the local level polls is withdrawn. The leaders also urged the PM to endorse the constitution amendment bill with revisions. Likewise, the leaders asked PM Dahal to complete remaining task of the three-point agreement made while electing Dahal as prime minister. Jha said that the government is yet to withdraw cases against the UDMF cadres and provide reparation to all the families of deceased during the Madhes-movement last year.

The agitating parties have also urged the government to probe the incident of police firing in Saptari on Monday and take action against the perpetrators. Likewise, they have demanded with the government to announce the four deceased of the Saptari as martyrs and provide reparation to their families. The UDMF also asked the PM to make necessary arrangements forhe treatment of the injured people.

"If PM does not work on addressing our demands within seven days, the decision of withdrawing the support to government will automatically be effective," said Jha.

According to Jha, PM Dahal requested the UDMF leaders not to mention any time limit for addressing the demand arguing he is genuinely working for addressing demands of the Madhes. PM also said that the government delayed moving the bill forward only because the bill still lacks the possibility of securing two-third majority in the parliament.

During the meeting, PM Dahal told the Madhesi leaders that their demands and political agendas could be fulfilled only by the present coalition and requested them to take any decision cautiously.

According to Jha, NC President Deuba urged the Madhesi leaders to have patience and not to hurry to withdraw support to government. He informed Madhesi leaders that he is having intensive political dialogues in his attempt of endorsing the bill.
