Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala inaugurated the expo amid a function. Speaking on the occasion, Koirala said the exhibition of Pakistani goods would help strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. She also said the exhibition would help promote trade relations between Nepal and Pakistan. [break]
The five-day expo showcases various Pakistani goods ranging from marble products, textiles, ladies footwears, leather goods, apparels and kitchenwares, among others. A total of 80 traders are showcasing different products made in Pakistan.
The expo is organized by Pakistan Trade Expo Center in association with the Pakistani Embassy in Nepal to mark the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Nepal and Pakistan.
Syed Abrar Hussain, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, said the event of this kind would help a lot in strengthening the relationship between the two countries and in enhancing and addressing the ever growing consumer market in South Asian countries.
“The program of this kind will contribute toward building economic bridges and provide a forum for the interaction between the countries,” Hussain said. He also requested Nepali business community to organize similar exhibition in Pakistan as well and promote Nepali goods amongst the Pakistani people.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Federation of Nepal Chambers and Commerce and Industry Kush Kumar Joshi said exhibitions like these would open up new avenues for investment between the two countries and create a win-win situation by creating a market space for the products in respective countries.
He further added that reduction of transit cost for trade between the countries would be lucrative for both countries.
The exhibition will last till May 23. Hand-made Pakistani decorative products, leather goods, apparels, wooden furniture, accessories and many other products at the exhibition are priced between Rs 350 to Rs 15,000 and above.
Though this is the first time that Pakistani exhibitors are showcasing their products in Nepal, they expressed hopes to start trade in Nepal in the future too if they receive good response.
