BIRATNAGAR, Feb 14: Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, praised Nepal Republic Media (NRM)’s initiative “Ma Nagarik, ma banauchu Nepal” as an important campaign for the nation and its citizens.
Speaking at the Creator Champion program organised by NRM in Biratnagar on Friday, Chief Minister Karki said that this campaign plays a significant role in motivating citizens to contribute towards the nation’s progress. He reiterated that the NRM-led initiative is instrumental in fostering civic responsibility and national development.
In his speech, CM Karki said that if Nepali citizens at all levels fulfill their responsibilities, the country will develop in a short time. He stressed the need to continue making print media, online platforms, and social media positive. He added that it is not appropriate to forget one’s duties and criticize them, as the current system is better than the past. "Some people are resorting to violence and murder to criticize the current system. Additionally, those who were previously rejected by the people for their inability to perform are now voicing criticism against the system,” he said.
Karki claimed that the current federal system is more cost-effective than the previous administrative structure of zones and development regions. He said that the tendency to criticize the government has increased and opined that it is important for citizens to understand their responsibilities.

CM Karki also mentioned the necessity of enhancing the nation’s economy and capital. He emphasized that the commercialization of hydropower, tourism, and agriculture is essential for economic development. Karki shared that the Koshi Province government has prioritized religious tourism because Nepal has a lot of potential in this sector. He added that the government is committed to improving religious tourist sites in Koshi Province.
Similarly, CM Karki also mentioned that the Koshi Province government has started working on the development of trekking routes. According to him, the state aims to attract both domestic and foreign tourists by constructing trails like the Tea Trail, Lali Guras Trail, Mahaguru Falgunanda Trail, and Mundum Trail. He clarified that the aim is to create a large number of both direct and indirect jobs by developing these trekking routes. Karki claimed that the government is working to stop migration from the hills to the Terai and abroad, and to create conditions for migration back to the hills. “Now, we are creating a situation for migration from other areas to the hills,” said Karki.
During the occasion, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Rewatiraman Bhandari said that some people are spreading rumors about the country’s lack of progress. He said that although negative comments are being made about the country, these rumors need to be countered by the citizens. He emphasized that it would not take long to build the country if there is determination, willpower, and honesty, and mentioned that building a country is not just the responsibility of the government, but also of every citizen. He added that if everyone makes joint efforts, a prosperous nation can be created in a few years.
The mentor of the program and chairman of Morang Auto Works, Vishnu Agrawal, expressed that determination and commitment are key to success in business. He said, "Even though there are ups and downs in business, success will surely come if there is continuity, determination, and commitment." Agrawal gave the example of Morang Auto, which started as a small garage in Biratnagar but has now become a well-established brand in the country.
Likewise, the mentor of the program and Ncell Director, Bishakha Pandey, stated that Ncell pays more than Rs 300 billion in taxes to the government annually and spends over Rs 2 billion annually on various social works through the Ncell Foundation.
During the program, Guna Raj Luitel, editor-in-chief of Nagarik Daily, said that Nagarik Daily has been running a campaign to raise awareness among the younger generation for nation-building under the slogan ‘Ma Nagarik, ma banauchu Nepal’. Students from various schools in Biratnagar participated in the program.
NRM announced that the best ideas presented through videos from across the country will be rewarded. The participants were also informed about how to make videos for the program.
Students from various schools and colleges in Biratnagar took part in the program, which will continue in Janakpur on Sunday.
