KHOTANG, Aug 5: Over 700 cattle have died so far from lumpy skin disease in Khotang district.


A total of 55 cattle died in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality, 26 in Halesi Tuwachung municipality, 40 in Khotehang rural municipality, 272 in Diprung Chuichumpa rural municipality, 45 in Kepilasgadhi rural municipality, 52 in Aiselukharka rural municipality, 76 in Baraha Pokhari rural municipality, 21 in Jantedhunga rural municipality, 84 in Rawabesi rural municipality and 65 in Sakela rural municipality from the lumpy skin disease.

The symptoms of lumpy skin disease were detected on the cattle in the third week of March in the district and 736 cattle have died from the disease so far, according to the Khotang Contact Office of Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Udayapur.


Similarly, 431 cattle are now suffering from the lumpy skin disease. Symptoms of lumpy skin disease were also seen on buffaloes in recent periods in the district, said Contact Officer, Chandra Kishor Yadav. A total of 14 buffaloes were found suffering from lumpy skin disease in the district last week.  


Khotang folks blamed that no bodies concerned have paid attention to control lumpy skin disease spreading on cattle as farmers have been facing huge losses from this. The Ministry of Industry, Agriculture and Cooperative had on July 9 provided Rs 100,000 to each local level to purchase vaccine and medicine against lumpy skin disease in order to control the disease.
