Lumbini Province's speaker Gharti has COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Speaker of Lumbini Province Assembly, Purna Bahadur Gharti, has been diagnosed with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).


Gharti underwent a PCR test at the Lumbini Provincial Lab on Friday morning and tested positive, confirmed Sudarshan Baral, the provincial Minister for Social Development. He had developed COVID-19 related symptoms on Thursday evening. 


Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of the province, Kul Prasad KC, was also diagnosed with the infection on Friday.

“Health condition of both of them is stable,” Baral told Republica over the phone.


KC and Gharti were both present during a provincial meeting to endorse the name and capital of the province on October 6. A contact tracing will be carried out to figure out those who were in close contact with them, informed Baral.
