KATHMANDU, July 30 : The long-delayed collection of outstanding electricity pole rental fees has resumed, with internet service provider WorldLink Communications becoming the first company to begin the payment process.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), WorldLink has started clearing its outstanding pole rental dues through the Bagmati Province Division Office under the NEA’s Distribution and Customer Services Directorate.

The company said it initiated payments for the 2025/26 fiscal year based on its self-declared pole usage after applicable tax deductions. For the 2024/25 fiscal year, it settled outstanding dues after reconciling jointly verified records of electricity poles and distribution boxes (DB boxes), while also adjusting prior duplicate payments.

Meanwhile, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said all service providers using state infrastructure are obligated to pay the required fees in accordance with the law.

Calling WorldLink’s payment a positive start, the minister expressed confidence that other service providers would also fulfill their legal obligations. He reiterated that the government is committed to the rule of law and the impartial enforcement of regulations, adding that any practical issues arising during implementation would be resolved within the legal framework.

Shrestha also cautioned against attempts to politicize the enforcement process or spread misinformation, stressing that the law would be applied equally to all service providers.
