RAUTAHAT, June 9: Locals of Gaur Municipality on Saturday staged a demonstration against the chief administrative officer of the local unit who has refused to leave Gaur despite being transferred five times.
The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration had transferred Suman Karki to five different places but he has refused to leave his office. According to the locals, this has made them more suspicious.
The agitating locals staged a procession chanting slogans against the chief administrative officer. During the protest, they demanded Karki to leave Gaur as soon as possible.
After being transferred for the fifth time, Karki handed over his responsibilities to accountant Pawan Mahato. Instead of creating a favorable environment for the person entrusted by the ministry to take over his responsibilities, Karki gave his rights to accountant Mahato, according to Bikrant Nepal, chairperson of Youth Struggle Committee.
Nepal, a former youth leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, accused Karki of disrespecting the law and order of the ministry. Social activist Bhusan Singh argues that it is not fair for Karki to depute an employee as an acting chief administrative officer when he himself has lost his post.
The ministry has already appointed Saroj Kumar Lal Das as Karki's replacement.
Locals have warned of continuing their protest if Karki refuses to go to the place suggested by the ministry. Hundreds of youths took to the street demanding Karki to hand over his responsibilities to Das as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Das has accused Karki of not allowing him to assume office though the ministry appointed him for the post on May 31.
