KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Locals residing at and around Kathmandu Durbar Square have organized a protest program against United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and its Nepal representative Christian Manhart.

The protestors burnt effigy of UNESCO and its Nepal representative during the protest. According to the protestors, the organization has given permission for the construction of the commercial building at the UNESCO heritage sites for which they had to organize the protest against encroachment in the historic sites. They accused Manhart for being influenced from the contractor and urged government and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to intervene in the issue.
