KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Melamchi Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate has received a memorandum from the locals stating that the people at Koteshwar's Mahadevsthan area are not receiving water from the project.
The locals argued that although water from the new Melamchi pipeline is being wasted in other places, the water did not reach their homes as pipelines have not been expanded yet to the Koteshwor Mahadevsthan area, which lies at an elevated place.
The locals said that even after repeatedly informing the Melamchi Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate, the directorate has not been able to deliver water to the houses of Koteshwar Mahadevsthan Height through the water pipes.
Locals threaten to halt Melamchi water supply
Govinda Raj Panta, a resident of Koteshwor Mahadevsthan, said that the water did not reach the Koteshwar Height area even though the water of Melamchi is being wasted all around. He warned that if the water supply problem is not solved, they will picket the house of the contractor.
Panta also said that the directorate has promised to supply water to the houses that have not received water within four days.
A new pipeline was built as the system connected to the Koteshwar height area earlier was unable to supply water to the elevated area.
Rajendra Sapkota, director of the Melamchi Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate (PID), claimed that if water is to be given to the pipe right away, the hydraulic system would fail and there would be a problem. He promised to study the issue and resolve the issue raised by the locals.
The locals and the Melamchi Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate have reached a four-point agreement to resolve the water supply issue in Koteshwar Mahadevasthan area.
