JUMLA, March 2: Recently, the Netra Bikram Chand-led outfit Nepal Communist Party wrote to the elected representatives of Jumla district and told them to resign their posts immediately or face consequences. Following the development, panic has set in among the representatives.

Almost all elected representatives here have received the letter from Chand's outfit. The representatives said they now fear for their lives and demanded that the local government provide them necessary security so that they can perform their duties without fear.

“We don't feel safe anymore and now it is especially difficult to visit the villages,” said Hari Bahadur Bhadari, the chairman of Guthichaur Rural Municipality.

According to him, the outfit in the letter has threatened action against those who do not resign. “Despite the threat, I will continue to work for my constituents, but the local administration should ensure me necessary security,” he said.

Bhandari personally met with the chief district officer (CDO), Bishnu Paudel, and requested him to deploy security personnel in higher numbers in the vicinity of the rural municipality office. “The temporary police post them the rural municipality office is manned by a few police personnel, so I asked him to deploy more police there,” he informed.

CDO Paudel said the local administration will do all to ensure safety and security to the local representatives.

“I'll do the needful for their security. I urge them to carry out their duties without fear,” said Paudel.

The outfit had written to all chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, ward chairpersons as well as office bearers of the District Coordination Committee.
