KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey has said the date for local poll would be announced soon at the consent of political parties.
Taking part in a face-to-face program organized by the Reporters' Club Nepal here today, the Minister said, "The country would be taken to the election phase even by amending the constitution." The constitution will be amended by meeting the aspirations of all communities, he added.
Also speaking on the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Narayan Prakash Saud said the NC wanted the timely election and was working hard to create atmosphere conducive for so.
Saud also urged the main opposition party, CPN-UML, and the Madhesi Front to be flexible towards constitution amendment and the local level elections.
CPN-UML leader Lal Babu Pandit called on the government to create environment conducive for the election, saying election was his party's priority and it was ever ready for the election and constitution implementation. He added that the UML would not stand as an obstructionist in legislating election-related laws.
Nepal Sadbhavana Party leader Laxman Lal Karna said the Madhesi Front is in favor of holding the election but would not accept it if attempts are made to force the election. "First, let us amend the constitution and then go for the elections," he asserted. RSS
