BIRATNAGAR, May 13: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that local level elections have been highly politicized.
Giving a brief response to media personnel after casting his vote at Aadarsh Higher Secondary School polling station in Biratnagar on Friday, Koirala said that it was not appropriate for the central leaders to run in the local elections.
'I will work as people's servant, not their master'
Koirala said that there was a danger of creating animosity between the political parties at the local level as a result of politicizing the local level elections more than necessary. "It would have been appropriate to look at the local elections non-politically and go politically in the province and federal elections," he said.
Similarly, Dr Koirala said local issues were being overshadowed as the central leaders politicized the local elections. He said, "It is a matter of concern that local issues of wards and municipalities are being overshadowed by emphasizing national issues in the local level elections."
Likewise, NC central member Sujata Koirala has also cast her vote at the Aadarsh Higher Secondary School polling station in Biratnagar.
