KATHMANDU, May 2: Candidates representing various political parties who are going to contest the local polls slated for May 14 in 283 local units under the three provinces covering 34 districts are set to file their nominations at the concerned election offices today from 10 am to 5 pm.

The major political parties have almost finished preparing the list of their candidates except in major local units including Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the local polls due to take place on May 14.

The Election Act requires that those candidates recommended by their respective parties file their nominations at the offices of Chief Returning Officers and Returning Officers to be eligible for contesting the local polls.

With the readiness of the FSFN to participate in the local polls as well as the acceptance of the first phase of the local election by the RJPN, the major obstacles to the local polls slated for May 14 have disappeared. These two parties had been saying that they would not partake in the local polls until recently before the hard-won consensus was forged between the government and the pro-ethnic federalism parties.

The Election Commission(EC) on Monday informed the media fraternity that the all the preparations for the local polls slated for May 14 were complete.

Talking to journalists on Monday, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said there was no confusion about the holding of  the local polls slated for  May 14.

Local polls are scheduled to be held on May 14 in Provinces 3, 4 and 6 where 34 districts are located. There are 283 local units in these three provinces. Of them, 97 are municipalities and metropolises.
