KATHMANDU, April 2: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has assured the agitating victims of predatory lending that their problem will be resolved. Minister Shrestha’s remarks come after the government reached an agreement with them to address their problems.  

Following the agreement, the agitating loan sharking victims, who arrived in Kathmandu on foot to stage protests, are now all set to return home in various Terai districts. "You (the victims) can return home with confidence. It will not take long to address your demand as per the agreement reached with the government," said Shrestha. 

Before their departure, they got COVID-19 tests from a team of doctors from Bir Hospital. "They are all prepared to return home. They walked all the way to Kathmandu for around two weeks. So, they got health checkups and treatment," he said. 

Medical officer of Bir Hospital Dr Sanjaya Dharel said the health of all victims was normal. "Their health is normal. We have recommended some of them suffering from chronic diseases for their further checkups and counseling," he said. 

The victims said they were assured that their problem would be resolved. They also demanded that the government manage transportation for them to return home. "We are convinced that the problem would be resolved," said Shyam Kumar Thakur, a victim of loan sharking from Siraha district.
