Lesser-known Millennium Cave

Lesser-known Millennium Cave

Ghaderi village of Shukla Gandaki-12, Tanahun is a home to Millennium cave, which is one of the less-explored caves of Nepal. Located near to the Sadhi River which flows crossing the borders of Tanahun and Syangja, it is taken as one of the ideal caves in South Asia.

As per a local, Buddha Singh Gurung, the cave is believed to be discovered 100 years ago. “Myths have it that when a goat fell off an enclosed ditch, the herd went inside for its rescue tying himself in rope. It was when the cave is believed to be discovered”, says Gurung.

“Due to the presence of bats inside the cave, it was previously known as Chamero Gufa. Later, it was named Millennium cave after some researchers and geologist conducted a study on the cave. It was after the concept of Millenium trek developed 18 years ago that promoted the cave to some extent,” adds Gurung.

The cave is located at Ghaderi gaun which is 15 km from Dulegauda bazaar. Surrounded by the forest, the cave is submerged in the melody of Sadhikhola and the chirping of birds.

Two waterfalls cascade down the walls of the cave. Different idols of gods and goddesses and bats in a heavy number could be observed inside the cave. As stated by a teacher of Janajyoti Madhyamik Bidhyalaya, Netra Narayan Gautam the flow of waterfalls located inside remains the same throughout the year. “This has added a charm to the cave. As shivalings could be found inside, the cave is observed as a form of Lord Shiva,” affirms Gautam.

“Lack of infrastructure has prevented the cave to grow as a touristic area,” says one of the locals, Manaraj Gurung. Along with the cave, the committees of locals have launched a campaign to promote Phirphire under the slogan ‘Jau hai Phirphire’.

“A budget of one million has been allocated for the promotion of the cave. For now, we have planned to install electricity at the cave and gradually promote it accordingly,” adds Gurung.
