Left alliance students continue protesting against petro- price hike

The student unions affiliated with the Left Alliance have continued their protest against the recent price hike in petroleum product for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

The protest began from Bhrikuti Mandap and ended at Ratnapark converting into a mass meeting. During the protest, the students chanted slogan against the government and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

Survey official returns bribe taken from service seeker

A survey official based in Katari Municipality in Udayapur district  has returned bribe taken from a service seeker.

A survey team led by Sukdev Chaudhary deployed from Gaighat survey office on Wednesday returned Rs 6, 000 following warnings by Mayor of Katari Municipality Gyanendra Shrestha.

SEZ to get power supply within a month

Power is to be supplied to the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) to run the industries there. SEZ has been brought into operation giving special priority to the promotion of industries. 

The first ever SEZ of the country in Bhairahawa has not come into operation for lack of electricity, although the infrastructures and the Act required for operation of industries is in place. 

Cold affects life in western Nepal districts, community schools closed in Kapilvastu

Normal life in the districts of western Nepal, including Bardiya has been affected by the increasing cold triggered by thick fog and cold wave. 

Normal life in Bardiya has been hit due to the excessive cold for the past few days. Students, elderly persons and workers have been most affected due to this. 

Pakistan beats New Zealand XI by 120 runs in tour match

Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman scored unbeaten centuries as Pakistan beat a New Zealand XI by 120 runs Wednesday in a one-day tour match.

Fakhar pounded 106 from 84 balls and Azhar made 104 from 105 balls in a 206-run opening partnership at Saxton Oval. Pakistan meets New Zealand in the first of five one-day internationals in Wellington on Saturday.

Inland Revenue Department issues ultimatum against Telia Sonera

The Large Taxpayer Office under the Department of Inland Revenue has given a 15 day ultimatum to Telia Sonera Group to clear its due tax; 65.4 billion rupees. The amount incorporates interests and fees upto January 2, 2018.

Telia Company, the then holder of underlying ownership in Ncell Pvt. Ltd is yet to pay tax dues despite receiving the notice of amended assessment. The liability of capital gain tax was created after Telia Company sold its shares to Axiata Group of Berhad, Malaysia.
