‘Laxmmi Bomb’ director wants to highlight transgender community through film

MUMBAI

Horror comedy Laxmmi Bomb, starring Akshay Kumar, is slated for release on November 9, and director Raghava Lawrence, who makes his Bollywood debut with the film, says he is compelled to tell the story of the transgender community in the film. The film is a remake of the Tamil horror comedy, “Muni 2: Kanchana”, which Lawrence directed in 2011.

“I run a trust and few transgender people have asked my trust for help. When I heard them, I wanted to tell their story to everyone, first through the character of Kanchana and now with Laxmmi in that movie. After watching the movie, the audience will know what I’m talking about. For the first time ever, I tried to get an important social message about transgender people in the horror comedy genre. characters are created in such a way that the audience can enjoy different variations of the characters on the screen, ”Lawrence said.

Akshay co-starring in the film are Kiara Advani, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharad Kelkar.

“After the release of Kanchana in Tamil, the film was very popular with transgender people. They came directly to my house and blessed me. So in Hindi, when Akshay sir is playing the part, I believe the message will reach an even wider audience. My special thanks to Akshay sir for accepting and playing this role, ”said the director.

The film is released on the OTT Disney + Hotstar platform.
