Lawmakers urge for announcing date for local poll

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Lawmakers have urged the government to announce the date for local poll. Speaking in the meeting of today's Parliament's special session, they have stressed on the local poll adding that it was essential for the implementation of the constitution. 

They have opined for announcing the date for poll by forging consensus among the political parties. 

Some lawmakers have also stressed on revising the report of Local Body Restructuring Commission and preparing the laws regarding the election. 

Nepali Congress lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has stressed on developing a permanent mechanism to stop inundation and erosion in various parts by Saptakosi River. 

Similarly, CPN-UML lawmaker Keshav Badal has drawn the attention of the government on the activities of border encroachment at Matihani of Mahottari, Pashupatinagar of Ilam and some parts of Nawalparasi district by Indian side. 

CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Prabhu Sah also opined for revising the report of LBRC saying that it creates obstacles for the implementation of federalism. 

Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Kanta Bhattarai said that the political interference was not acceptable in academia. 

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) lawmaker Geeta Kshetri urged the government to make Golden Thousand Days programme effective. 

Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Anuradha Thapa ruled out the relevance of thresh hold provision in election bill adding that the major parties were responsible for instability. 

Similarly, CPN (ML) lawmaker CP Mainali also stressed on local poll saying that it begins the election process in the country. RSS
