Lawmakers for permanent solution to floods, landslides

KATHMANDU, July 24: Lawmakers demanded a permanent solution to flooding and landslides that hit the country every monsoon. They made this order while putting their view

s at a deliberation in a session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday on a resolution of urgent public importance relating to launching relief efforts and collecting details of losses caused by flooding and landslides in many parts of the country.

Former minister and lawmaker Prabhu Shah demanded management of at least temporary huts for those who have lost their house to floods and landslips. Indu Kumari Sharma drew the attention of the concerned authority to flooding and landslides in State 2 caused by draining of resources from the Chure region.

Likewise, Bimal Prasad Sriwastab urged the government to seek a permanent solution to some areas of the Kathmandu Valley like Kuleshwor and Balkhu being deluged by flooding. Lawmaker Prem Suwal urged diplomatic initiatives with India to find a permanent way out of the Tarai being under the water during monsoon due to embankments along the Nepal-India border.
