KATHMANDU, July 28: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday demanded an impartial investigation into the Saurya Airlines plane crash, which resulted in the deaths of 18 people on July 24.

HoR members have called for a thorough probe into the incident and raised concerns about the safety of the aviation sector, which is considered the safest mode of transportation.

Lawmakers from various political parties, including Sanjay Gautam, Rajendra Bajgain, Purna Bahadur Tamang, Sunita Baral, Purna Bahadur Gharti, and Sarbendra Nath Shukla, questioned the roles of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Saurya Airlines.

They urged the government to thoroughly investigate and identify those responsible for the accident.

In response to the crash, the government formed a five-member committee to investigate and find out the cause of the accident.

Additionally, many lawmakers criticized the regulation of the CAAN and emphasized the need to restructure it, separating its roles as a service provider and a regulatory body.

Furthermore, lawmaker Rajendra Bajgain called for the removal of CAAN Director General Pradeep Adhikari from his position.
