Law Minister vows to help art sector flourish

KATHMANDU, April 8: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sher Bahadur Tamang has announced to come up with a comprehensive proposal to develop the art sector. 

Tamang addressing a function organized to felicitate dance teacher Honey Shrestha in Kathmandu said he will give his best to develop the art sector.

Stating that artists shouldn’t be taken as those who entertain others, the minister underscored their importance as the artists help create better identity of a country. “So we must respect artists,” he said. 

Minister Tamang also felicitated Honey Shrestha, who is taken as first dance professor of Nepal. Chairperson of ‘Nritya Nirdeshak Saang Nepal’, Bhuwan Das Shrestha, secretary of the organization Gyan Bahadur Maharjan conferred D-Daan medal on Shrestha. Dil Bahadur Karki of Karki Banquet provided her a cheque of Rs 25,555.  

Speaking at the event treasurer of the organization, Bhawana Karki urged the government to consider art sector as a fifth organ of the state.

“Artists are not just things of decoration they are the identity of a country. Therefore the government should give due recognition to artists by treating art sector as the fifth organ of the country,” said Karki.

She also demanded that the organization’s anniversary be marked as the national dance day. 

Earlier, the organization had felicitated Bhairab Bahadur Thapa as Nepal’s first dance teacher.
